School Council

Rights Respecting Schools Level 2 Gold Award.

On 21st June 2018 the Accreditation and Standards Committee agree that sufficient evidence was provided in the report to award Beechlawn School with the Unicef UK’s Rights Respecting School Award at Gold: Rights Respecting.  As a Gold: Rights Respecting school, Beechlawn has explicitly adopted a child rights approach based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and has embedded it in school policy, practice and culture. Children, young people and adults in school and have a thorough understanding of child rights, and rights respecting attitudes and language are embedded across the school. RRSA has had a positive impact on children and young people’s learning and wellbeing. Pupil’s see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and are advocates for social justice, fairness and children’s rights at home and abroad.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.

The ‘Rights Respecting School’ award (RRSA) will help our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community. By learning about their rights our pupils, your children, also learn about the importance of respecting the rights of others i.e. their responsibilities.

Beechlawn School pupils are encouraged to reflect on how their behaviour and actions affect those around them, which allows us to build and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all, both in the classroom and around the school grounds.

In our School we promote Rights through a variety of activities and strategies:

We really hope that you will feel able to support us and your child in working towards our goal of being a ‘Rights Respecting School’.
